SDM Narayana Heart Centre Performs Life-Saving CABG on 81-Year-Old
Dharwad: An 81-year-old high-risk patient, battling Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) and Triple Vessel Disease, successfully underwent a life-saving Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) surgery at the SDM Narayana Heart Centre in Sattur recently.
The elderly patient, Rajendra Bhat (name changed for confidentiality), from Sirsi in Uttara Kannada district, was suffering from uncontrolled diabetes and acute chest pain when he was admitted.
Senior Consultant Cardiologist Dr. Raghu Prasad S first attended to the patient and, recognising the severity of the condition, he performed an angiogram and some other tests, which revealed blockages in three arteries supplying blood to the heart. The patient was then referred to Consultant Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon Dr. Sai Suraj Kotera.
The patient was recommended to undergo CABG procedure and after a detailed discussion about the procedure’s benefits and risks, the patient’s family agreed to proceed with the surgery.
Dr. Sai Suraj Kotera and his team successfully performed the CABG procedure, addressing the arterial blockages and relieving the patient’s debilitating chest pain.
“The patient’s condition was critical due to his age and uncontrolled diabetes, but with meticulous planning, surgical precision, and a dedicated team, we successfully performed the procedure,” said Dr. Sai Suraj.
Post-surgery, the patient received round-the-clock nursing care and physiotherapy, ensuring a smooth recovery. He was discharged a few days later, expressing heartfelt gratitude for the care he received.
“I am deeply thankful to Dr. Sai Suraj and his team and Dr Raghu Prasad for giving me a second chance at life,” Rajendra Bhat shared emotionally. His family also commended the collective efforts of the entire medical team, including anesthesiologists, ICU staff and nurses, for the patient’s successful recovery.
